Street Spirit

This weekend we had a fundraiser event for my work which was the perfect excuse to get dressed up for an evening downtown filled with drinks, hors d'oeuvres and socializing.  We ended the night at the Ace Hotel rooftop bar with a few co-workers for a fun Saturday night out.

Black & Blue

During Spring, the weather can quickly transition from sunny and warm during the day to breezy with a chill in the evening.  After a day spent romping around, it is nice to transition into the evening by simply putting on a cardigan.

Vegan Asian Salad

Sometimes you go to the fridge and realize you need to go to the store. This salad is great because it was created out of the need to use up the rest of our produce before heading to Trader Joes again.  My husband and I were both surprised at how delicious this turned out! Not to mention it is super healthy and took only 25 minutes to make.  A perfect weekday night dinner.

Ingredients:
kale
broccoli
red bell pepper
cucumber
avocado
celery
bean sprouts
quinoa
sesame oil
rice vinegar
lime
salt and pepper

While the quinoa was cooking, chop the kale and all the veggies and massage them with sesame oil, lime and rice vinegar (this is important to soften the kale and let the flavors sink in). Then toss it all together and enjoy!

Monday Motivation: Rest Satisfied

It seems like no matter what we have, we are never completely satisfied and are always longing for more.  This is the reality of a fallen world, but it doesn't have to consume us and make us feel empty.  It is important to remember to focus on what we do have and be thankful for those things.  To be satisfied knowing that we are not ultimately in control and we need to trust that there is a plan and purpose for all of us.  Longing for something more is natural and is not a bad thing, unless we find ourselves putting that longing in the place of satisfaction and joy. While I do have goals and expect more out of myself and those around me, I need to remember to be satisfied in what I do have now.

Psalm 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Birkenstocks

A couple of years ago, if you had asked me what I thought about Birkenstocks, patchouli, body odor, tie-dye and northern California would all come to mind.  Now I find myself wanting a pair because they are durable, you can wear them with anything (including socks) and most important, they are so incredibly comfortable!

Weekend Plans

I am so thankful it is the weekend.  This was my first week back teaching after a two week Spring Break and it was awesome but exhausting!  Today and tomorrow will be spent lounging in cozy clothes, taking Yoga, walks with Finn at the park, lots of coffee and planing a small getaway for my husband and I next month.

Here's Where the Story Ends

It already feels like summer has come early to LA. Everyday this week, the temperature has reached 85-90 and I am loving the warm evenings to enjoy a drink on the porch with my husband.  My warm weather uniform is a dress, denim around my waist and sunnies.

Eyes to the Wind

Yesterday was the last day of Spring Break for me and although we only left the house to walk around the park and walk down Sunset for some delicious vegan fare, it was a perfectly casual Sunday and I loved every minute.

Tuesday Tunes: The War on Drugs

I am loving the new album from The War on Drugs (Lost in the Dream).  They sound like a throwback to some my favorites, Tom Petty and Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen, mixed with dreamy 90s guitar:: think Americana Folk Rock meets Shoegaze.  Whenever I listen to the new album, I also get "lost in the dream" of long road trips with friends, camping trips, truck stops and lots of laughing.  I can't wait to see them play the Troubador this Saturday!
